I’ve been thinking a great deal about gratitude this month.
The etymology of the word dates back to the mid 15th century, and comes from Medieval Latin for ‘thankfulness’. I realise ‘gratitude’ is used a great deal in our vernacular, and at times it can feel overused or tokenistic. But I can’t think of another word, to express the thankfulness I’ve felt this month.
Grateful, I most certainly am. Thankful to those who support the work I do, to those who offer to help, to those who publish my work, to those who purchase my books, and to those who have the capacity to meet me with a loving and open heart.
Work on the next ESP* Grief Almanac a liminal gathering 2 has been steady and absorbing. This time, I promised myself that I’d keep note of the hours, and I’ve clocked up about 400 hours (since submissions closed in May).
I’ve realised, over the last few years, that deciding to be an indie publisher (alongside the rest of life), and making books is a HUGE undertaking. Creating a book as a writer can take years, and publishing one as an indie publisher takes months – or possibly years if it’s a tome (and there’s only one of you doing the work).
