Iona Winter is a poet, essayist, storyteller, podcaster, editor and indie publisher.
Her non-fiction memoir A Counter of Moons (2025) was awarded the 2022 CLNZ/NZSA Writers’ Award. With several published collections of poetry and hybrid fiction, her work has been anthologised and shortlisted internationally.
Iona is the founder of Elixir & Star Press; a non-profit indie press dedicated to the expression of grief in New Zealand, and she also hosts the podcast rocks in my pockets – creativity and suicide bereavement – New Zealand artists speak.
Iona lives in Te Waipounamu, the south island of New Zealand, and when she’s not writing you’ll probably find her in the garden.
