A second print run of my poetry collection In the shape of his hand lay a river, is hot off the press. Orders through: books-elixirandstar@proton.me
It will be a good companion for my upcoming book on suicide bereavement, A Counter of Moons, due for publication this year with Steele Roberts Aotearoa.
After visiting my publisher in late 2024, for another round of edits, I realised that the process of writing A Counter of Moons had taken a huge toll on me. It’s one thing to write poetry about bereaved-mother-grief, and another to write a non-fiction book about it. Poetry affords the writer some distance, compared with a personal memoir-style book.
Last year, I also removed myself from most social media. While it had been a space to be visible in grief and speak about suicide bereavement, in order to normalise these things, it was incredibly draining too.
2025 will likely see me in the garden more often, and working on new creative projects.
My heartfelt thanks and aroha to those who still follow me here and who are supportive of the work I have been doing.
