Motherwort

Huge thanks to Underbelly Press (UK) for publishing a new poem Motherwort this week, in their inaugural Issue One!

I doubt that I’ll ever stop writing about the absence of my son, and exploring the margins between the realms we inhabit.

Just a quick note e hoa to say that this is a really beautiful poem. My Lou was also a warrior child. This is why, in part, I do not find a lot of the ‘stuff’ on suicide really fits for where Lou was/is and so is also irrelevant to me. The words ‘slain warrior child’ made tears prick into my eyes. Also ngā mihi nui for the book – Voicing Suicide. it just arrived yesterday and so I have not had the opportunity to really immerse myself but I had a little skim of the afterword by Katrina Jaworkski. I haven’t gone searching for intelligent philosophical writing about sucide but neither have I seen ANY. but I need philosophy and this looks promising.

Lots of love to you e hoa. I know you write for you- as do I- but your writing helps me feel less isolated.

    Aroha nui xx

Kia ora e hoa, thanks for your heart-warming message. I wasn’t sure if you wanted your comment to be public, so am replying here to double-check. I’m glad the book arrived safely to you, and totally hear you about the lack of philosophical writing on suicide. We Mums make the sense of it, for our tamariki and in their absence, I think. Much aroha headed your way xx
