Kia ora my lovely followers,
The last month has been a challenging time with health issues, as well as celebrating new pieces being published. So how about we focus on those! For me it’s all about sharing the aroha, and getting my writing out in the world.
I had two love poems published in Saltwater Love this month, ‘Toikupu aroha 1′ and ‘Whorls’. Here’s the link for a free PDF of poetry from some of the wonderfully talented Indigenous writers here in Aotearoa New Zealand https://saltwaterlove.weebly.com/
The awesome peeps at Flash Frontier published a new story ‘Heart Stones’ http://www.flash-frontier.com/april-2020-water/
Reflex Fiction in the UK also published a new story ‘Your version of beauty does not define me’ https://www.reflexfiction.com/your-version-of-beauty-does-not-define-me-flash-fiction-by-iona-winter/
And this week I was stoked (to a rather loud ‘yuss’ level) to be long-listed with the Bath Flash Fiction Award in the UK. But then last night an email came through to say I’d gone on to be short-listed! It’s true, I had to read the news three times before believing it, and then couldn’t get back to sleep.
Rather than this being a boast-fest (because I always struggle with how much self promotion is required as a writer) I figure there’s no point having it languishing at the bottom of a drawer.
I write to reach people and most importantly it’s about you, because without your eyes and ears none of this would be possible.
Kā mihi aroha,
Iona x
