Woo freaking hoo! Surprise, surprise, I’ve been writing things for “The Novel”.
Don’t fall off your chairs in shock please. I assure you it will continue. It must. I AM ON A ROLL.
You may well ask, ” So why are you writing on your blog then?” Um, to continue to explore the process of my writing…I suppose. No crime in that is there? I don’t sound too sure of myself do I? Maybe even a little defensive?
However, I am pleased to report that there are 53,093 words on pages. Some of these words flow into chapters, wonderful stuff (cue much hand clapping)! However there are several (I won’t say how many for fear of shame) pages with sentences, lines or images. They all ‘loosely’ relate to “The Novel” but haven’t found their way in yet. Kind of like a massive jigsaw puzzle. You know the bits that all look the same, but have their own special shape? Those ones. Hmm…
I need to fess up here. My writing isn’t flowery and filled with big words like “ubiquitous”. See an earlier post for exploration on this word, if you can be bothered. I figure it would be an injustice to write in a way which doesn’t flow naturally from my mouth. I have experimented with these big words, trust me. It doesn’t work. I don’t want to pretend to be clever. I want to write using my voice but realise that’s part of the problem. I’ve been told my voice can sound like I’m “nagging”. That doesn’t bode well does it?
Back to the jigsaw puzzle. It’s quite large, but the box doesn’t say how many pieces are contained within. I’ve no idea how BIG (or small) it will be. But I must keep writing, I’ve promised myself I’ll see it through.
What wisdom can I draw on from previous experience with jigsaw puzzles? They take time. And I have a deadline. How on earth will I reconcile the two?
Lots of questions and today, unfortunately not many answers. BUT we’re over the halfway mark and heading towards three-quarters. That’s got to be a good thing. Right?
