Kia ora friends, whānau and writerly colleagues.
Today’s news is that my new book A Counter of Moons has been printed and published with Steele Roberts Aotearoa.
A Counter of Moons shares my initial grief experiences, after my son Reuben Winter took his life in 2020. Each chapter explores a complex mix of emotions, and reflects upon widespread ideas about how to deal with grief. Ultimately, this is a book about the coexistence of love and pain, when someone beloved takes their life. A Counter of Moons aims to start conversations about suicide bereavement, and to give words to an often wordless experience.
My heartfelt thanks to Roger Steele, and the late Christine Roberts, for accepting my work and the tireless editing process over the last two years. Thank you to those who read and gave feedback on the manuscript, to Kirstie McKinnon for the beautiful artwork, and the 2022 CLNZ/NZSA Writers’ Award that enabled me to complete the first draft.
To purchase a copy, before it hits bookshops, please email Steele Roberts Aotearoa info@steeleroberts.co.nz and they will send one your way.
Kā mihi aroha, loving thanks, Iona x
