Posting a link, to a reading of ‘Blackbird’ https://fb.watch/eTYV5IhZm-/ as published this month in takahē Magazine Vol.105 https://www.takahe.org.nz

They’ve made this issue accessible for all, so you can also read the poem there, plus check out loads of other wonderful literary delights too.

Massive thanks to takahē Magazine for selecting my toikupu, and to Reuben for the continued inspiration to write.

Nui te aroha,

Your kupu are beautiful and capture that “piercing threat of losing myself to the sorrow” so well. “When will I emerge from my own shallow grave?” I know that question well.
Thank you for your courage in giving voice to your keening and sharing it so generously with us. Arohanui to you x

    Beautiful post Iona.

I relate to the gentle sadness of your voice, more easily than to your anger though I know they speak of the same immense grief. Not sure what that says about me! In writing of it you give mothers a gift. I love that it is published and award winning, which draws people towards it.

Oh gosh, this weather! Hope you are staying warm and well.
