This week while faithfully doing downward dog, I’ve been able to smell wet earth, for no particular reason. But it’s been coming up through the floor when my nose is near it. Maybe because it rained this week and our drought afflicted earth has slurped it up. Either that or I’m imagining things.
The smell has remained with me all week. You’d think that would inspire me to write something.
There is a parrot who lives nearby. It screeches every single day. I didn’t know it was a parrot (because I cannot see it) but a friend visiting from Australia told me it sounded like one. The noise it makes is eerie and sets my shoulders up around my neck. I reckon it’s in pain, or angry, or both of these things. It is most certainly caged – quite unlike this wee fellow who is simply behind a fence.

Why does someone keep the parrot next door in a cage? You’d think that would inspire me to write something.
On the radio today there was a discussion about gender and pay inequality. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING NEW about this discussion. We’ve been having it for years, us women. The (insert adjective of your choice) reporter said, ‘It sounds like discrimination’. What did they mean, ‘it sounds like’? It is discrimination. Full stop.
Why do we have to keep pointing out the freaking obvious? Honestly. How can some people not see what has been in front of them for years? Talk about blinkered.
Enough said. I’m becoming agitated. You can probably tell. I’m useless at hiding how I feel. You’d think that would inspire me to write something.
Back to the parrot. I figure I am aligned with it today. An angry bird demanding equality. This is a damn good reason to get my arse into gear and write something. Don’t you think?
